Cas Friese’s Minimalist Gallery Is Tranquil and Inspiring

CAS is a minimal studio and gallery located in New Canaan, Connecticut, designed by Cas Friese. Friese, who specializes in one-of-a-kind photographic works and large-scale, limited-edition prints, was inspired by both her environment and experience when designing the space.

Following a complete renovation, the design speaks to references from California, Scandinavia, and coastal New England. Natural light cascades from large glazings and skylights to illuminate onto white painted wooden floors. Carefully curated pieces, such as those by Faye Toogood and Eero Saarinen, accompany the minimalist design.

When describing her gallery, Friese explains, “I feel a tremendous connection between the artwork and design of the space in which it lives…my goal is to create an experience that is immersive – from the furnishings to the music, fragrance, and conversations – they all contribute to the complete story of my work.”
