New & Noteworthy: Honoring Black History Month

This week on New & Noteworthy we celebrate the work of Black artists and designers, with a wall hanging from Hadiya Williams for Lulu and Georgia, a table lamp from AprhoChic, a sofa designed by Nile Johnson for TOV, artwork by Kendall Hill for Saatchi Art and more artwork by Lisa Hunt for Saatchi Art.

Inspired by the quilts of Gee’s Bend, Lisa Hunt’s collages for Saatchi Art allow the viewer to create their own meaning through the exploration of simple forms, sometimes with the goal of creating a meditative effect.
Inspired by the beauty and legacy of Marrakech, AphroChic has collaborated with Moroccan lighting brand, Dounia Home, to create the Amur Collection, AphroChic’s first foray into luxury lighting. Handmade in Morocco, this collection blends the centuries-old technique of creating pierced metal lanterns with modern lighting aesthetics to offer a floor lamp, table lamp, sconce, and chandelier. The perforated globes allow precision control of the amount of light in a space, while the various designs are created with the intention of working together to create sophisticated layers of pattern and texture within a space. With finishes ranging from silver to brass, this collection is the perfect way to add a handmade touch of this ancient city to your home – with an AphroChic twist.
Designed by Nile Johnson for TOV, the Abreeyah sofa features a minimalistic shape with neutral-toned throw pillows. Its kiln-dried pine frame and velvet fabric ensure comfort and durability.
Kendall Hill’s artwork is part of Saatchi Art’s digital exhibition, Piecing it Together. WASH (2021) Original collage by Artist Kendall Hill. This is a limited edition of a collage created with paper, leather, found objects, and a found object window frame. The collage sits on a glass panel.
In her exclusive collection for Lulu and Georgia, Hadiya Williams uses clay, textiles, and other natural materials to tell visual stories inspired by the culture of the African diaspora. This wall hanging features beautiful clay pieces threaded on jute. The earthen textures will add a rich warmth and artistry to your wall décor.
